Asus EEPC... WANT!

The progress of technology sure is fast. IT companies have been flooding the Philippine market with lots of low-cost computers. The image of laptops and PDA's as luxury items is slowly becoming a thing of the past. Just recently, I saw this awesome laptop in an Octagon Computer store. It's the Asus EEPC, a low-cost and portable computer. I want to call it a portable computer because it's smaller than your average laptop. Don't believe me? Here are some pictures.

Advantages of the Asus EEPC:

  1. You can easily carry it on the palm of your hand making it the most portable "laptop" ever

  2. It costs no more than P20K and some retailers sell it for P15K. Very affordable :D

  3. It has a 7-inch screen which is pretty good considering the computer's size

  4. Some variants have a built-in web-camera

  5. It runs on a mobile processor so connectivity is not a problem

  6. It's light weight and small making it so darn adorable!

Disadvantages:

  1. It runs on an Intel Celeron instead of Pentium chip (well what do you expect for P20K?)

  2. It has no optical drive

  3. It currently runs on LINUX OS (other OS are not yet available in the Philippines)

  4. I have no idea how to reformat the computer if I have to (or if a virus damages it beyond repair)

  5. The keypad buttons are too small for my fingers :(

Other rival companies have released their own version of a low-cost and light weight computers. Take Neo for example. The Taiwanese company has recently released the Neo Explore X1. It's just as affordable as the EEPC, however there is just one problem. The EEPC looks very professional but the X1, in my opinion, sadly looks like a toy just like the Intel Classmate PC.
